Position Overview
Lawrence Industries, Inc. is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Furnace Operator to join our heat treating team. This role is responsible for operating and monitoring industrial furnaces used in carburizing, hardening, and tempering metal parts. The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, follows processes closely, and understands the importance of quality and consistency in heat treating.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor heat treat furnaces (carburizing, draw, and/or vacuum furnaces)
- Load and unload parts using baskets, fixtures, or forklifts
- Set and adjust furnace controls including temperature, time cycles, and atmosphere levels
- Monitor carbon levels, temperatures, and cycle times to ensure proper heat treatment
- Read and follow work instructions, process sheets, and job travelers
- Perform basic equipment checks and report any issues or abnormalities
- Maintain accurate production and quality records
- Work closely with quality and maintenance teams to ensure specifications are met
- Keep work area clean and organized in accordance with safety standards
Qualifications
- Prior experience in heat treating or industrial furnace operation preferred (but will train the right person)
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn furnace controls and processes
- Ability to read gauges, charts, and work instructions
- Forklift experience or willingness to be trained
- Strong attention to detail and consistency
- Dependable with good attendance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods
- Comfortable working in high-temperature environments
Work Schedule
- Full-time position
- Shift work may include nights and weekends depending on production needs
